Inspired by Spring Breakers from earlier this year I was wondering is there a film that represents each month of the year. For some there are lots to choose from, others are a little harder to think of. Here is what I came up with:
JANUARY In Search of a Midnight Kiss (2007)
New Years Day
FEBRUARY Some Like it Hot (1959)
February 14, 1929 – Saint Valentine’s Day massacre.
MARCH Piranha 3D (2010)
Spring break
APRIL A Night to Remember (1958)
April 15, 1912 – The Titanic sank.
MAY Dazed and Confused (1993)
May 28, 1976 – the last day of school at Lee High School, Austin, Texas.
JUNE Bobby (2006)
June 5, 1968 – Robert F. Kennedy was shot and mortally wounded while leaving the Ambassador Hotel.
JULY Independence Day (1996)
Independence Day
AUGUST Richard III (1995)
On 22 August 1485 Richard III become the last English king to die in battle.
SEPTEMBER Dirty Dancing (1987)
Labour Day
OCTOBER Halloween (1978)
31st October
January – FRUITVALE STATION (New Year’s in San Francisco, 2009)
February – FARGO
March – THE BROTHERS McMULLEN (in honour of St. Patrick’s Day)
April – BULL DURHAM (baseball season begins)
May – MOMMY DEAREST (for Mother’s Day)
June – SAVING PRIVATE RYAN (in honour of D-Day, June 1944)
July – THIS MOVIE IS BROKEN (set on a July 2009 night in Toronto)
August – DOG DAY AFTERNOON (based on events in August 1972)
September – PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER (in honour of school resumeing)
October – ARSENIC AND OLD LACE (Set on October 31st, though not a horror!)
November – PRIMARY COLORS (American elections are held)
December – JOYEUX NOEL (set on Christmas Eve, 1914)
Trust you to come up with an alternative list in two minutes flat. nice work!
This is a great idea for a list! Awesome post.
In Search of A Midnight Kiss has just been recommended to me. This makes two. I’ll be checking it out.
As far as the collection of movies related to days of the year goes – exceptional choices! There’s a few I would have gone for myself (Die Hard for Christmas Eve for example) but there’s a few that stand out – Pieces of April and Dirty Dancing are ones I would have forgotten about.
In Search of a Midnight Kiss is well worth a look.
Pieces of April and Dirty Dancing are there because the fit the dates perfectly more than anything. Having said that Pieces of April isn’t a bad film and It was good to see Katie Holmes making interesting films like this and Go to diversify from her Dawson’s creek image.
Whatever you think of Dirty Dancing as a film it does have some great 60’s music.
