I found this movie questionnaire blogathon on the always brilliant flixchatter and thought I would give it a go. It was originated by Alexander from Cinemaniac Reviews, a site that is new to me but on the strength of what I have read so far will be checking out again. that’s enough rambling here are my answers:
1. What’s your favourite movie?
2. Least favourite movie?
I don’t think I have one, I hate The Sixth Sense and I hate that so many people love it but there are far worse films than that.
3. Name one movie you loved upon initial viewing but eventually grew to hate (or vice-versa).
I don’t think there is one, once I form an opinion I tend to stick with it.
4. Name your biggest guilty pleasure film.
Resident Evil – I know its crap but I love it.
5. Favourite quote from a favourite actor/actress (must be a line from a movie)?
“Now you listen to me, I’m an advertising man, not a red herring. I’ve got a job, a secretary, a mother, two ex-wives and several bartenders that depend upon me, and I don’t intend to disappoint them all by getting myself “slightly” killed” Roger Thornhill, North by Northwest
6. Favourite quote from a favourite actor/actress (must NOT be a line from a movie)?
Suggesting an alternative to Dustin Hoffman who had slept outside his trailer as part of his method acting technique on the set of Marathon Man “Dear boy, it’s called acting”
7. Three favourite movie scenes?
Too many to chose from but I love all these:
Henry Fonda stabbing the knife into the table in 12 Angry Men
The Skydiving scene in Fandango
The diner conversation/scene in Reservoir Dogs
8. Four films that should NOT have won Best Picture?
Ordinary People
Chicago
Titanic
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
9. Top five of the year (currently)?
The Dark Knight Rises
The Hunger Games
Haywire
Killer Joe
10. Bottom three of the year (currently)?
Mirror Mirror
John Carter
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance
The Iron Lady
The Darkest Hour
11. What film gets your vote for the worst or most pointless remake?
It hasn’t happened yet but I keep hearing about a remake of Oldboy, don’t do it!
12. Is there any film you think is actually desperate for a remake?
The Last Starfighter – great concept, shaky script and terrible effects. So much more could be done with it.
13. Name your three favourite film heroes/heroines.
Ripley
Indiana Jones
James Bond
14. Name your three favourite film villains.
Hans Gruber – Die Hard
Stansfield – Leon
Anton Chigurh – No Country for Old Men
15. Best sequel?
The Godfather: Part II – obvious choice but the right one!
16. Worst sequel?
Highlander 2 -it completely rewrites the mythology of the first film
17. Best trilogy?
I would have said Star Wars but am leaning towards Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy
18. Worst trilogy?
Transformers
19. What’s your favourite word to use in a movie review (if your film blog does not feature reviews, substitute “review” with “-related post”?)
I don’t have a favourite but my most overused word is probably cliché or clichéd, this in itself is probably a cliché.
20. Anything else?
Glad to see all the love for Moonrise Kingdom in other peoples top five of the year to date.
Thanks for the shout out. Yay Hans Gruber!! We have a few in common in regards to top movies of the year, including Moonrise Kingdom! 😀
Thanks for taking the time to participate! I really appreciate it. I’ll comment like I have been doing, by each response:
1. That’s one of those “I keep claiming I’ve seen it to avoid getting stoned to death but I really haven’t” kind of films. Need to get around to it.
2. It’s always good when you can’t choose one film you absolutely despise more than any single other. Keeps me from having to complain about just the mention of the title. The Sixth Sense, I’ve recently become aware that it’s a film some don’t like that much at all, but I really enjoy it. Except for the one twist ending; I don’t get how it shocked so many people because I put my finger on it at the very beginning.
3-4. Brave responses.
5. Another film I must revisit. Except I actually have seen this one, as well as the majority of Hitchcock’s American filmography.
6. Haha!!
7. Haven’t seen the last two you mentioned (did you know your second choice was a film Tarantino considered his favorite and your third choice was Tarantino’s first film?), and although I’d consider Henry Fonda stabbing a knife into a table in 12 Angry Men more of a “scenette” (the movie itself is played out like one scene, if I remember correctly), but I love it as well.
8. I’m with you on LOTR:ROTK (I don’t get all the praise for the series, quite honestly), but I really love the other three you mentioned. Though I can see why Ordinary People should get a mention–Raging Bull, right? I love that one even more, so I guess I can agree…
9. I should start keeping count of how many people loved Haywire as much as I did, and enough to put it in their answer to this question. The current number, unfortunately, is only 2.
10. I only saw The Iron Lady, out of that list. Meryl Streep herself was enough to make the film satisfying for me, but I can understand why it would bottom out for you.
11. I keep getting this remake confused with the Unforgiven remake, with Ken Watanabe behind it. Haven’t seen either original work, unfortunately, but I hope to see the originals and avoid the remakes.
12. Let’s hope a great director in Hollywood hears your shoutout about the film. Just the title sounds corny.
13-14. Great picks!
15. Yeah!
16. Highlander…the film Ricky Bobby claims to have won the Academy Award for Best Movie Ever Made. Lol…
17. I’ll agree with you there.
18. I’m completely avoiding that trilogy, unless I reach 200 followers by December 15th. I vowed to spend two weeks reviewing only awful movies in that scenario; there’s another date later on that will result in one week, but I’ll need some time to prepare for that kind of stupidity.
19. That word is starting to drive me nuts. It’s becoming a cliché.
20. It deserves that placement!
Hans Gruber! Absolutely! And I’d have to agree about the “Transformers” trilogy. The first film was interesting, but the rest of them were so disappointing. My guilty pleasure film would be “Ghost Rider,” and I feel oh so guilty about that (really any of the more recent Nicholas Cage films could be labeled as a guilty pleasure of mine…especially “Drive Angry”).
