Earlier today I went to see Made in Dagenham, the story of female workers fight against sexual discrimination at the Ford car plant in Dagenham in the late 60‘s. Unfortunately traffic chaos caused by the Conservative Party Conference descending on my hometown of Birmingham resulted in missing the start. The only other movie due to start that I hadn’t seen was Takers. So for the second Sunday in a row I saw a heist movie but was it as good as The Town?

A crew of bank robbers Gordon (Idris Elba), John (Paul Walker), A.J. (Hayden Christensen), Jake (Michael Ealy) and Jesse (Chris Brown) successfully rob an LA bank and get away cleanly. Their plans to go back to their luxurious lifestyles are put on hold when former member Ghost (T.I.) is released from prison. Ghosts plan to takedown an armoured car containing $20 million is too good to pass up. All the time cop, Jack Welles (Matt Dillon) is on their trail.

Rolling out every cliché the genre has to offer the movie has some serious flaws. The biggest problem is a predictable story and some really poor acting. Zoe Saldana is completely wasted in a supporting role that is hardly used. As is often the case these days the film is really over edited with approximately twice as many cuts as are necessary, this is very conspicuous and distracting. It isn’t all bad, the heist scenes are well handled and there is a good foot chase that employs elements of Parkour.

An over stylised mess of a movie that has some good moments but not enough of them.
