David Fincher’s Hollywood take on The Girl With the Draggon Tattoo is taking shape with Rooney Mara named as Lisbeth Salander. I must admit I don’t know much about the younger sister of Kate Mara, but at twenty-five she is the right age and the best thing for this particular character she is relatively unknown bringing no baggage to the part. The only movie I have seen her in is Youth in Revolt where she had a small but memorable part, she is also in The Social Network (also directed by David Fincher) due out later this year. I’m not worried about her look, as Noomi Rapace proved in the original Swedish version massive transformations are possible on screen.

As for the rest of the casting, Viggo Mortensen would have been my first choice to play Mikael Blomkvist but Daniel Craig should do a good job. Robin Wright will be perfect as Erika Berger (and suggested by me several months ago) and casting a big name suggests that the role won’t be as truncated as it was in the Swedish version. Stellan Skarsgård is inspired casting as Martin Vanger. The latest buzz also has Max Von Sydow as Henrik Vanger (also suggested by me), I hope this comes off.

All things considered with an impressive cast and what could be the perfect director I have changed my mind and am actually looking forward to this movie.
