With less than a year to go until the release The Dark Knight Rises and after much speculation we now have official and unofficial Images of Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman.
It appears that my idea of her costume as a practical high-tech material with a matt finish, something like Scarlet Johansson’s Black Widow from Iron Man 2 were wrong. Its hard to be sure from the images but it appears her catsuit is made from some sort of textured leather. As previously reported (and speculated by me long before that) she is wearing goggles, these do appear to have some high-tech features. What is missing however is her trademark cowl and cats ears.
More interesting than the costume is the fact she appears to be riding the Batpod as featured in The Dark Knight. For those that don’t remember the Batpod was ejected from the Tumbler when it self destructed after being damaged beyond repair. The possible reasons why Catwoman could be using Batmans vehicle are so numerous that it isn’t worth speculating, whatever they are they are sure to be interesting. What are your thoughts on all the fuss about the picture file referring to Selena not Catwoman for those images? Seems like a lot of overexcited speculation to me :p
Finding it hard to get excited about this and trying very hard to remember I actually like Hathaway in a lot of stuff. I just can’t shake this meh feeling :/
I covered the Selena thing before, as I remember the press release back in January did state that Hathaway would be playing Selina Kyle with no mention of Catwoman. I speculated at the time that it would be an origin story and she would only become Catwoman in the latter part of the movie. I now think it is more likely the character will just not be referred to as Catwoman.
I’m not finding it hard to get excited, I’m always excited about a new Nolan movie and after her performance in Rachel Getting Married I think I would watch Anne Hathaway in just about anything.
I’m a big Nolan fan but as shamefaced as I should be about this I don’t really enjoy the Batman films. I’m a diehard Keaton fan and still prefer the Burton films even though I know it’s like comparing… well, like comparing Inception to the Bobby Ewing in the shower bit :p Problem with me is I like crap, I’ll watch just as much crap as I will exquisitely beautiful, intimidatingly brilliantly made films.
I’ll definitely up Rachel Getting Married on my watchlist now though, if you rate it that highly. I’ve been meaning to watch since it came out but might set it aside for next week…
I also love the Burton films but they are so different from the Nolan ones it is a whole different character. The same goes for people who say Heath Ledger is the best Joker. Ledger wouldn’t have worked in Batman and Jack Nicholson wouldn’t have worked in The Dark Knight.
